CHAPPELL - The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a fatality accident on Interstate 80 near Chappell early Thursday morning.

According to the state patrol, Kevin Thompson, 45, of Gering, was driving his Ford F-150 on the westbound lanes when he crossed the median into the eastbound lanes and collided with a semi-tractor-trailer at 2:30 a.m. 

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-tractor-trailer was not injured. 

The investigation into the cause of the accident continues.

The Deuel County Sheriff's office also responded to the scene at mile marker 82.
