Preparing for severe weather in Nebraska

NEBRASKA -- Majority of Nebraska is in tornado alley, so how does the state prepare for tornado season and severe weather?
March 24 through 28 is Severe Weather Awareness Week, make sure you know what to do in the case of severe weather.
Starting on Mar. 26, there will be a statewide tornado drill. Norfolk will be participating in this around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Participating in the statewide drill allows residents, businesses and others to test their severe weather emergency plans.
If there happens to be severe weather during the drill, it may be postponed or canceled.
The National Weather Service says that every year in the U.S., hundreds are killed and thousands are injured due to weather.
NWS says weather safety and survival - no matter what the hazard - depends on the following key items:
1. KNOW THE HAZARDS - Be aware of the hazards that you might face during a weather event.
2. KNOW WHEN TO EXPECT DANGEROUS WEATHER - Monitor forecasts and information from your local
National Weather Service Forecast Office.
3. PAY ATTENTION - Be aware of all watches, warnings, and advisories affecting you.
4. HAVE A PLAN TO STAY SAFE - Think about it before it happens and be ready to act to survive.
