OMAHA - 15 wrestlers from Southeast Nebraska earned themselves a spot on the podium somewhere on Saturday morning, and three local athletes won a state championship with two more taking second place on Saturday afternoon at the 2025 NSAA Boys Wrestling State Championships in Omaha.

Ten athletes competed the third- and fifth-place matches to start things off on Saturday and went a combined 8-2 in their medal matches. Collectively, those ten secured four third-place finishes, four fifth-place finishes, and two sixth-place finishes. Not a bad start to Championship Saturday for wrestlers from Southeast Nebraska.

Then on Saturday evening, five more local athletes competed in the state championship matches. Tri County's Cooper Stokebrand (C215) and Southern's Wyatt Forney (D113) finished in second place, but the night belonged to a trio of local wrestlers: Beatrice's Merrick Johnson (B175), Wilber-Clatonia's Zaiyahn Ornelas (C120) and Southern's Drake Troxel (D144), who all finish the week as state champions.
