HASTINGS, Neb. – Hastings Police Chief Adam Story is on departmental leave amid an investigation into shots fired at a rogue skid steer driven by a 15-year-old suspect.

A video obtained by our news partners KSNB Local 4 shows an officer firing 11 shots at the rear of the skid steer over a period of three seconds. The officer then moves to the side of the Bobcat and fires four more shots before the video ends.

You can't make out who the shooter is in the video, but Hastings City Administrator Mark Funkey confirmed to News Channel Nebraska on Tuesday morning that Story fired the shots. None of the bullets hit the teenager.

The situation developed on Thursday night around 8:00. The Hastings Police Department, Adams County Sheriff's Office, and Nebraska State Patrol responded to reports of a skid steer Bobcat driving around on the northeast side of town.

The skid steer rammed and severely damaged three law enforcement vehicles. The teen led authorities on a 50-minute chase that covered more than one mile.

Officers eventually used chemical munitions to arrest the teen suspect near the Casey's at 16th St. and Burlington Ave. There were no serious injuries to anyone involved.

Story is not accused of any wrong-doing at this time. Funkey says the chief is on leave due to department protocols regarding an officer-involved shooting.

The Nebraska State Patrol is leading the investigation and hasn't released any further details.
