GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – - A science, technology, engineering and math camp is empowering kids in central Nebraska.

From Monday through Thursday, Starr Elementary in Grand Island has hosted kids for the STEM Power Camp 2024.

The camp offers a diverse curriculum to kids. They get to learn about art, coding, engineering, sculpture and more.

It's plenty to keep second-grader Orion Kohtz and camp coordinator Hannah Luber excited.

“I learned that if we worked together everything can be possible,” said Kohtz.

“It provides students an opportunity to meet other students around Grand Island Public schools and also gives the students an opportunity to explore different areas," said Luber. "We have music where they are going to learn how to play the ukulele that they might not be able to do throughout the school year. We have classes that are very different that what they would be exposed throughout the school year."

The camp has been going on for more than a decade. This is the largest year to date for Grand Island Public Schools. About 250 kids from second through fifth grade students registered.
