KEARNEY, NE — Central Nebraska non-profits are preparing for Buffalo County’s biggest charitable giving event.

The 10th edition of Give Where You Live is on Thursday. The day of giving is organized by the Kearney Area Community Foundation and is open to any charities that pledge to keep at least 80% dollars earned in the community.

President and CEO Judi Sickler says the event helps promote all the local non-profits.

“A lot of it is education, just letting the community know what’s going on," Sickler said. "They end up being year-round supporters once they get in and start giving during Give Where You Live.”

New this year is the Discover Local Giving Passport. 35 groups are hosting events and people can win prizes by getting stamps at the different stops.

In honor of Kearney’s 150th birthday in 2023, the Foundation is offering a $150,000 match. Each organization will get a percentage of the match equal to its percentage of total donations received.

People can donate in person or online at givewhereyoulive.net. Buffalo County non-profits have collected $8 million in donations over the previous nine years of the event.
