GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Grand Island kids are stocked up on candy after a local "Trunk or Treat" Event.

The Literacy Council of Grand Island held its second annual Trunk or Treat event on Tuesday night. Many organizations came together to help make the event happen.

The Literacy Council of Grand Island Executive Director Tiffany Hartford said she hopes this will get their organization recognized.

She said, “The purpose is to just be a presence in the community, to kind of get people to know who we are, what our services are, but also to provide an activity for kiddos and for families just to come out and enjoy the night."

Some of the community partners they worked closely for this event were United Way, Multicultural Coalition, Hope Harbor, Central Community College, Habitat for Humanity, Banisters, Telemundo Nebraska, Fiesta 94.5. and more.

During the event, parents and children had the opportunity to visit the different trunks of each organization.

Telemundo and Fiesta 94.5 were present and won the Literacy Council contest for best decorated trunk.
