HASTINGS, NE — A central Nebraska beef processing plant is facing fines for alleged workers compensation violations.

New Jersey-based Noah’s Ark, which operates the WR Reserve plant in Hastings, pleaded no contest in Adams County Court last week to three counts of failure to file a required report under the Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Act. Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson says Noah’s Ark didn’t report injuries in order to avoid increased insurance premiums. As a result, injured employees couldn’t claim workers compensation rights.

Judge Michael Mead sentenced the company to pay $3,000 in fines.

The Attorney General’s Office says workplace injuries must be reported to the Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Court within 10 days.
