Authorities respond to reported threat at Wheatland school
WHEATLAND, Wyo -- At about 7:30 a.m. today, the Platte County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Wheatland High School regarding a voicemail stating there were bombs placed in the school.
The voicemail was left at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday from an apparent computer-generated foreign voice, the Sheriff's Department reported. According to authorities, the message said the bombs were scheduled to detonate at 1 p.m.
The caller further states that if the bombs are moved, they would come shoot up the school.
Authorities arrived at the high school within minutes and began a sweep of the school’s perimeter and interior of the individual buildings. Libby Elementary and the administration building exterior and interior were also thoroughly searched.
Laramie County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Detection K9 teams were requested to respond, and the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security was also notified of the threat.
Wheatland High School and Libby Elementary put a hold in place for all students while law enforcement investigated the threat. At about 8:58 a.m., Laramie County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Detection K9 team arrived and deployed two canines. Nothing was located.
Authorities reported there is currently no reason to believe the physical safety of any student or staff was ever in danger.
The Platte Valley Sheriff's Office had also learned that bomb threats have been reported to various schools throughout Wyoming.
Wheatland Police Department, Wyoming Game and Fish, and Laramie County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Detection K9 team responded to the school. Authorities commend the Platte County School District for their support and cooperation.
