Future of Kimball's Main Street Market is up in the air as Legacy Coop announce they will stop operating the grocery store

Kimball's only full service grocery store has an uncertain future as it heads into 2026 up for sale, and with its current operators preparing to exit the business.
In a letter addressed to "Kimball, Nebraska Area Residents and Customers of Kimball Main Street Market," Legacy Cooperative President Charlie Wright laid out plan. Stating that the Legacy Coop Board of Directors had done a comprehensive review of Kimball Main Street Market, that included over a decade of business, they found no way to keep the store consistently profitable. Wright cited the boards obligation to the member-owners of Legacy Coop to maintain what he called a "Sound and sustainable business model," as the reason action must be taken.
Legacy Cooperative is seeking an individual or group with an "entrepreneurial spirit" with which they are willing to discuss price, terms and financing options as they attempt a "successful transition."
That said, the letter warns that if no suitable individual or group is found, Legacy Coop will need to exit this part of their business as they enter calendar year 2026.
Interested parties may reach out to 308-630-5205 regarding a potential purchase of the market.
