Combine fire near Hoskins put out Tuesday night
NORFOLK, Neb.-- Crews are cleaning up after a combine fire that happened north of Norfolk on Tuesday evening.
Stanton Fire, along with Hoskins/Woodland Park Fire and Rescue, were dispatched at approximately 6:20 p.m. for a fire on 566th and 846th Road. Upon arrival, they found a combine fully engulfed in flames, and the fire started to spread to uncut beans in the field.
An area farmer used a disc to form a perimeter and kept the fire isolated to the area.
Stanton County Emergency Management supported the responding fire departments with overhead aerial views and thermal imaging for hot spots on the combine.
The responding fire departments put the fire out in under 30 minutes and spent the next couple of hours doing overhaul and fire watch to ensure that nothing would rekindle.
The cause of the fire is unknown. However, dry conditions and low relative humidity played a factor, according to Stanton Emergency Management.
No one was injured and the combine is considered a total loss. Authorities left the scene by 9:00 p.m.
Some relief to the dry conditions is forecast in the next few days as a storm system moves into the area bringing rain chances from Wednesday thru Friday.
