GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – A Grand Island teenager is facing several charges stemming from his 4th DUI charge in the past 15 months.

At 5:36 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 1, a Grand Island Police officer pulled over a vehicle that was observed to be speeding and swerving at the intersection of S Eddy St. and W Charles Ave.

The officer contacted the driver, identified as Leonardo Castro-Castro, 19, and noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from within the vehicle.

According to GIPD, Castro-Castro admitted to drinking alcohol as he was "having a difficult night due to recently breaking up with his girlfriend."

During a field sobriety test, authorities say Castro-Castro showed "gross impairment," and also failed a preliminary chemical breath test.

A further investigation found Castro-Castro was driving under revocation, and an open beer container was located in the vehicle.

He was arrested and taken to the Hall County Corrections Department on charges of DUI, MIP, speeding, and driving under revocation.

According to court records, Castro-Castro was convicted of three previous DUI charges, two on Dec. 8, 2023, and one on Nov. 8, 2024. He was also convicted of two Minor in Possession charges on June 24, 2020, and Aug. 5, 2022.
