UPDATE: Hastings home total loss after accidental Thursday two-alarm fire
Friday City Update: The City of Hastings says the house that caught on fire last Thursday is a total loss.
The home at 205 E. 4th St. suffered damages caused by a two-alarm fire around 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, fire investigators determined the cause of the fire was an accident.
According to the city, the blaze was started by the use of a portable propane heater which ignited nearby combustibles.
There was also minor damages to a property neighboring the house.

HASTINGS, Neb. – A home in Hastings is heavily damaged after it caught fire Thursday evening.
City officials says Hastings Fire and Rescue responded to a call of a house on fire on around 7:30 p.m.
First responders reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the roof of a home in the 200 block of E 4th St.
The fire was upgraded to a two-alarm fire, prompting the response of the Hastings Rural Fire Department.
Authorities say the house was under construction, which hindered firefighting efforts. All utilities had been disconnected prior to the incident.
Luckily, the occupants of the home were safely evacuated and no one was injured.
Firefighters were able to control the fire around 8:30 p.m.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire and the official amount of damages to the home.
