Two-vehicle collision in Merrick County leaves one dead, another seriously injured
One person is dead and another one is injured after a fatal crash in rural Merrick County.
CENTRAL CITY, Neb.- One person is dead and another one is injured after a fatal crash in rural Merrick County.
According to the Merrick County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to Highway 14 near U Road, which is about 8 miles north of Central City, on Wednesday morning for a two-vehicle accident.
Officials say the preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle driven by 46 year-old Ryan Peery, of Cass County, crossed into the opposite lane of the highway, colliding with a pickup.
Peery died at the scene. A news release says he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt at the time of accident. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
Medical personnel initially transported the pickup driver to a local hospital and later moved the driver to an Omaha hospital with serious injuries. The pickup driver was using a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The accident is still under investigation.
