Lopers hang tough, fall to #7 Pitt St. 20-10
KEARNEY, Neb. — The Nebraska-Kearney football team hung tough with a top 10 team but didn’t manage enough offense in a 20-10 defeat to Pittsburg State.
The Lopers (3-3) never led against the #7 Gorillas (5-1) but also never trailed by more than 10 points. While the score remained close, the offensive statistics didn’t. Pitt amassed 366 yards on 86 plays compared to UNK’s 138 yards on 52 plays.
UNK trailed 13-7 at half after Pitt went 2-4 on field goals in the first two quarters. The Lopers’ lone score came when they started their drive at the Pitt 48-yard line.
The Lopers had multiple chances to take the lead in the third quarter. They couldn’t find the end zone, even after a muffed punt gave UNK the football at the nine yard line. That possession finished with a 28-yard field goal from Trey Pritchard to make it 13-10.
Pitt St. quarterback Chad Dodson tallied the final score of the game on a 25-yard touchdown pass to Kuron Parchmon in the final minute of the third quarter to make it 20-10.
The Lopers head to Missouri Western next week before returning home to face Emporia State on Oct. 26. That game will be televised on News Channel Nebraska.
