GRAND ISLAND, Neb.— A Nebraska man is in jail after authorities say he tried to kill a 16-year-old.

Grand Island Police responded to the disturbance around 1:00 Saturday morning in the 1200 block of Warren Lane. According to police, the altercation began in a garage between Panom Keolavone and a 16-year-old. The 16-year-old retreated into the basement and barricaded himself behind a bedroom door.

Police say Keolavone then grabbed a screwdriver and said he was going to kill the teenager. Keolavone left the home, then came back and kicked the door where the teen was hiding. A news release says Keolavone placed the teen in a headlock until the boy passed out.

Witnesses got involved and were able to free the teen. According to police, the teen sustained injuries to his face, body and neck and also has petechial hemorrhaging in both of his eyes.

Keolavone was arrested for attempted murder first degree, attempted first degree assault, attempted second degree, use of a weapon to commit felony, use of a weapon to commit felony, assault by strangulation, terroristic threat and child abuse(intent /no injury).
