LINCOLN, Neb. -- A man reported that a woman tried to steal his vehicle while he was inside a Lincoln gas station.

The Lincoln Police Department said officers were sent to the 600 block of W B St. around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday for a reported disturbance.

Officers said they talked to the 31-year-old victim and he told them that he had parked his 2001 Ford Escape at a fuel pump at Super C, 501 W A St. He reported that he had gone inside the store after turning off his vehicle and left the keys inside the Ford.

According to authorities, the victim reported that he saw his vehicle was driving away from the pump and he left the store to try and catch up to it. He reportedly reached his vehicle after it had gone down a dead-end street near SW 6th St. and W B St.

Officials said the victim reported that the driver's window was partially open and he managed to hold onto the vehicle as it sped up west on W B St. The person that was inside his vehicle was reportedly a woman in her 20's.

LPD said the victim reported trying to grab the steering wheel while the Ford was allegedly going 25 to 30 mph as he held onto it. The victim told officers that he let go of the vehicle when he saw it heading towards a parked 2018 Ford T-350 in a parking lot at 1245 S Folsom.

Officers said the Escape collided with the van and stopped working. The victim reported that he grabbed the woman out of his vehicle by the sweatshirt. The suspect reportedly fled south and officers couldn't find her in the area. The damage done to the T-350 was reportedly an estimated $8,000 while the Escape's damage was $1,800.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and anyone with information can contact Lincoln Police or Lincoln Crime Stoppers.
