CLARKSON, Neb. -- The name “Kasik” is a common site at both girls and boys basketball games for the Clarkson/Leigh Patriots.

Senior Kyle Kasik, the ace of the Clarkson/Leigh boys' team, is flying down the final stretch of his senior season, pacing the 8-3 Patriots forward as the team’s leading scorer, assist man, and, according to head coach Jeff Bachman, best defender.

“He’s a lead-by-example guy. When he speaks up everyone listens,” Bachman said. “He works hard and shows how it’s supposed to be.”

Kasik has worn #4 all four years of his high school career. The example he set, didn’t go unnoticed by his younger sister, Ava, who picked #4 as her jersey, joining the Patriots on the girls side as a freshman this season.

“He’s a good player to look up to,” Ava Kasik said of her brother. “He’s worked really hard to get to where he is.”

With freshman Ava earning minutes at the varsity level, both siblings have had the chance to watch each other during Patriots' double-headers this season.

After watching his sister, Kyle Kasik says there may be some other similarities besides the letters on the back of the jersey.

“The other day she did a spin move,” he said. “She learned that from me. That’s my go-to move.”

Both Ava and Kyle Kasik will play this weekend in the Clarkson/Leigh double-header against Pender.

The girls game between the No. 9 Patriots and top-ranked Pendragons is set to tip-off Saturday, Jan. 14, at 2:00 p.m. in Pender, with the boys game following afterwards. Both games can be viewed live on News Channel Nebraska.
