MCCOOK, Neb. -- The McCook Bison earned their first win of the 2022 high school football season Friday, beating the Cozad Haymakers by a score of 34-7.

It was all McCook in the first half as senior quarterback Adam Dugger found the endzone twice, once with a one-yard QB sneak and another time with an 82-yard run.

Cozad found themselves in the redzone twice in the first half but couldn’t find the endzone. The first time Cozad fumbled which resulted in a touchback and the second time ended with a failed fourth down conversion.

The Bison added three touchdowns in the third quarter. Senior Lucas Gomez-Wilson had 2 touchdowns; one was a rushing TD while the other was a receiving TD. Senior fullback Alex Anthony had a four-yard rush for McCook’s final score of the game.

Cozad’s lone score came from senior running back Tag Sassali in the fourth quarter who capped off an 81-yard drive with a seven-yard rushing touchdown.

Bison junior Patrick Gross went 4/5 in PAT conversions while Jaden Cervantes went 1/1 for Cozad.

Dugger and Cozad sophomore quarterback Noah Shoemaker each threw an interception in the game.

Tag Sassali had the lone interception for Cozad and Canyon Hosick had the interception for McCook.

Cozad will face Central City next week at home while McCook will be on the road at Gothenburg.
