AUBURN-All fire hydrants will be turned on and tested to make certain they are in good working condition for winter. Tests will be conducted on Tuesdays thru Thursdays, during the weeks beginning October 5-7, 12-14 and 19-21.

The Board of Public Works (BPW) will operate all 200 fire hydrants to make certain they are functional. High velocity flushing removes any sediment that may have settled in the water mains.

Customers may find temporary discoloration of the water during these periods. This is normal and the water remains safe to drink. Before washing clothes on these days, please check the water for clarity. If it is not clear, please run until clear and then wash clothes.

If testing was not performed, it could affect the community’s fire insurance rates.
