LINCOLN — One of the most-prized properties in college athletics is taking its media operation in-house.

A spokesman confirmed Monday that Nebraska Athletics is bringing its multimedia rights and Husker Radio Network operation in-house. Nebraska Athletics is under contract with Learfield/IMG College through June 30. It will not renew the contract.

“Learfield/IMG College and Nebraska Athletics have enjoyed a great partnership for many years and will continue to be affiliated in the licensing, ticketing and digital space,” Nebraska Athletics Senior Deputy AD Garrett Klassy said in a statement.

According to its website, Learfield/IMG College currently manages all aspects of the Huskers’ rights relationship, including signage, event sponsorships, promotion, corporate hospitality, radio and digital engagement.

Nebraska Athletics has had a relationship with IMG College since 2006. It renegotiated terms of its contract with Learfield/IMG College in 2014. That deal enhanced payments to the University to $72 million over the remaining six years of the contract.

Klassy says Nebraska Athletics plans to release more details about the move as it gets closer to the expiration of the current contract.
