SCHUYLER, Neb. – Authorities were called to Schuyler High School after a student allegedly brought a handgun, ammunition and a knife to school Wednesday morning.

School officials were alerted to the situation shortly before 10:00 a.m. and were able to locate the student, whose name has not been released due to the fact that the student is a minor. All of the weapons and ammunition were secured by school personnel.

The Schuyler Police Department was contacted shortly after 11:30 a.m. The weapons were turned over to police upon their arrival. The student remains in custody as of Wednesday evening. There is no official word on whether or not charges have been filed.

Nebraska statute prohibits the possession of a firearm in school, on school grounds, in a school-owned vehicle or during a school-sponsored activity or an athletic event. Unlawful possession is a Class IV felony.
