Cooper Giles earned NCAA Specialist-of-the-Week honors for his performance on Sunday, Feb. 7 against Penn State. Giles becomes the second Husker gymnast to earn this award. 

The sophomore earned the pommel horse title after notching a career-high score of 14.10. A Lake Zurich, Ill. native, Giles had the highest score on pommel horse throughout the NCAA for week 4 of competition. Giles currently has the second-highest score in the NCAA for the 2021 season. 

"I couldn't be more proud and happy for Cooper's accomplishments so far. He's a very hard-working and determined young man and strives for excellence," said coach Chmelka. 

This is Giles' second pommel horse individual title and first weekly honor of his career. 

The Huskers return to action this Saturday, Feb. 13 against Minnesota at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb. The meet will be live-streamed on BTN+ at 2:00 p.m. CT.

Glaywulu Named B1G Field Athlete of the Week

Nebraska track and field junior Papay Glaywulu was named the Big Ten Men's Co-Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.

Glaywulu won two titles on Saturday at the Husker Quad. He won the men's long jump title with a personal-best leap of 24-3 (7.39m). He also captured the triple jump title at 52-8 1/4 (16.06m).

Glaywulu ranks first in the Big Ten triple jump and third in the long jump. His triple jump mark ranks sixth nationally. 

The Huskers are split on the road this weekend at two different meets. Most of the Huskers will compete at the Hawkeye B1G Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa on Friday and Saturday. A group of 10 Huskers will also travel to the SPIRE Pre-Big Ten Meet in Geneva, Ohio this weekend. The SPIRE Institute is where the Big Ten Indoor Championships will be held on Feb. 25-27.
