OMAHA, Neb. -- Like the rest of the state, northeast Nebraska and the Platte Valley are gearing up for more winter weather.
A winter weather advisory has been issued across all regions of the state, with winter storm warnings stretching into the southeastern corner of Nebraska. The weather alerts are in effect until 3:00 a.m. Tuesday. Heavy snow is expected with up to a foot possible in parts of the state, including an expected 2-5 inches in the northeastern quarter of the state and up to 12 inches in the southern half.
There is expected to be a brief period of freezing drizzle before snow begins early Monday morning. The heaviest snowfall will occur during the daytime on Monday, gradually diminishing Monday evening and overnight. Winds are expected to be 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 30 miles per hour, leading to some blowing and drifting snow.
The Nebraska State Patrol and the Nebraska Department of Transportation are both advising drivers to stay off the roadways if possible.
