Sidney siblings work to grow small businesses
SIDNEY, NE — The Brandt Performance brand is growing.
“We’ll be doing more giveaways and we just released new masks,” Brandt Performance founder Bodhi Brandt said.
We first introduced you to Bodhi in May. Back then, the now 12-year-old was just starting out by selling shirts and fishing lures. Now the offerings on his website brandtperformance.com have greatly expanded. It now has a larger variety of fishing gear and apparel. His 14-year-old sister Brooklyn Brandt has even joined in. She started her own businesses BB Activewear, geared to kids, and Double K Active, aimed at adults.
“I saw him start his own business and him growing from it, and I always helped him package his orders. I was like ‘This is really fun. I want to start my own business," BB Activewear and Double K Active founder Brooklyn said.
With an ever-growing inventory, the Brandt’s decided to make sure no one was left out during the holidays. They partnered with local law enforcement to give presents to inmates at area jails.
Bodhi says Cheyenne County Sheriff Adam Frerichs has been a big inspiration to him. He wants to grow up to be a cop, but also had spiritual reasons for the gifts.
“Nobody at the jail, like the inmates, they really didn’t get anything for Christmas and in the Bible it says 'God forgives' so I wanted to give them something,” Bodhi said.
Bodhi has also gotten to work expanding his brand’s exposure. In addition to being the youngest person to join Grow Nebraska, a group that helps small businesses grow, he also sponsors multiple Legends race car drivers.
“We actually met one of them at a gas station. He’s originally from Las Vegas, but came down because of COVID," Bodhi said. "Everything shut down and he came down here to race. That’s #35 his name is Todd Hamman."
Bodhi and Brooklyn's mom, Kristie Brandt, says Hamman's car is currently being stored at the family's farm near Dalton as he remains in the area during COVID-19. Bodhi also sponsors Tanner Scarberry and Jim Bowman from Colorado. He and Brooklyn are thankful to everyone who’s bought something so far and hope to keep growing in the new year.
