Beatrice remembers veteran Police Lieutenant, Investigator
BEATRICE – The community paid their respects and bid farewell to a retired Beatrice Police Officer Saturday, who was a 26-year-member of department.
Michael Oliver died December 4th, at the age of 54. His funeral service was held at the Beatrice Municipal Auditorium, Saturday. Following the service, a procession traveled from the auditorium north on Sixth street onto Dorsey and to the Veterans Club….where a police honors ceremony was held.
The Humboldt, Nebraska native who graduated from Falls City High School, began his law enforcement career as a Deputy in the Richardson County Sheriff’s Office.
Oliver joined the Beatrice Police Department in December of 1991 as a road patrol officer, rising through the ranks of Investigator, Sergeant and Lieutenant, where he became commander of the investigations unit….the Southeast Agencies Drug Task Force, a police crime scene team, K-9 program, school resource officer program and the communications center.
While with Beatrice Police, Oliver twice received the Medal of Valor, the highest award given to a department officer. Oliver had to retire from the Beatrice Police Department about three years ago, because of medical reasons.
Oliver is survived by his wife Tina….who is an investigator with the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office. He is also survived by his parents, a brother, four sons and two daughters, a step-daughter and two step-sons.
