WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Adrian Martinez completed 23 of 30 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown and added two more touchdowns on the ground as Nebraska claimed a 37-27 win over Purdue. Both teams are now 2-4 on the season. The win is Scott Frost’s first against Purdue.

Nebraska got on the board 2:30 into the game with a 1-yard Dedrick Mills touchdown. The score came one play after a Levi Falck blocked a Purdue punt that was recovered by former York standout Simon Otte near the goal line. A Martinez rushing touchdown and a Connor Culp field goal capped the next two Nebraska drives as the Huskers built a 17-point advantage.

Nebraska upped its lead to as large as 21 points in the second half, but the Boilermakers scored on their final drive of the third quarter and their opening drive of the fourth quarter, with David Bell’s 89-yard touchdown reception from Jack Plummer pulling Purdue within one score.

Martinez, who sat out two drives due to an apparent shoulder injury, returned to lead the Huskers to a field goal and rebuild their two-possession advantage with 7:04 to play. Purdue, which surrendered three sacks and was flagged for 126 penalty yards, was never able to get closer.

Ashland-Greenwood grad Ben Stille and Scottsbluff native Garrett Nelson each had 1.5 sacks, while Deontai Williams had 12 tackles for the Blackshirts.

Nebraska will close out the regular season against Minnesota next Saturday.
