Sidney Cross Country Vaults to No. 2 in Latest Rankings

SIDNEY - Thanks to a first place finish in Ogallala last Thursday and a third place finish at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Invite on Monday, the Sidney boys cross country team shot up seven places to #2 in the latest Nebraska Cross Country Coaches Association Class C rankings.
Columbus Scotus, who won the UNK Invite, jumps to the top spot. The Red Raiders and Scotus were tied for 9th last week. Scotus received seven first place votes. Sidney got two.
Lincoln Christian drops from #1 to #5.
The Red Raiders had two runners place in the top 20 in Kearney. Junior Daniel Bashtovoi led the team with a time of 17:24, good enough for fifth place. Junior Mitch Deer was 14th at 17:43.
The Sidney girls dropped a spot from #6 to #7.
The Lady Raiders finished fifth at the Kearney Country Club, thanks to a third-place medal from freshman Talissa Tanquary in 20:20 and a fourth-place finish from junior Lydia Peters at 20:27.
Despite winning all five of their meets this season, Chadron has fallen from the top spot - just two weeks ago - to #4.
Douglas County West is the top team this week in the Class C girls rankings.
Sidney hosts the Western Conference Meet at Deer Run Park on Saturday. Races begin at 9 a.m.
