Pioneers fall in close one to Hastings
GERING, Neb. (KNEP) - The Western Nebraska Pioneers once again fought back to make things interesting against Hastings but in the end they came up short 5-2.
Hastings came out of the gates scoring five runs in the second inning to lead 5-0. Western Nebraska got back in it as Trevor Mattson mashed a two run home run to make the score 5-2. Both teams bullpen was strong in the game. Pioneers would get shut out innings from Harold Baez and Ryan Flippo the final seven innings in relief. Baez going four innings and Flippo going three innings in the contest.
While Hastings got seven innings from starter Reese Dutton who gave up two runs and struck out nine batters.
Pioneers record falls to 10-15 on the season and they will look to rebound on Wednesday against Pierre.
