MADISON - The COVID-19 outbreak at the Tyson Foods plant in Madison is continuing to grow.

Thursday afternoon, the Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department reported 40 confirmed cases of coronavirus are now related to employees of the plant. An additional 117 tests are pending in the district, but it is unknown at this time how many of those tests are from Tyson employees.

The health department says that as results are received and interviews are conducted, the numbers will be updated accordingly. Elkhorn Logan Valley and Tyson are continuing to work together on the testing, investigation, containment, and educational measures.

Elkhorn Logan Valley also provided an update on COVID-19 testing in its service area on Thursday, reporting 56 overall cases within its district. 50 positive tests have been confirmed in Madison County, with an additional 3 in Cuming County, 2 in Stanton County, and 1 in Burt County.

Over 550 people have been tested in the health department's service area, with 511 tests returning negative.
