Glenwood falls in first-ever state volleyball match
CEDAR RAPIDS - Kenzie Folie - a St. Cloud State recruit - had a match-high 27 kills and 21 digs, Elle Sneller added 12 kills, and top-ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton eliminated Glenwood from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State Volleyball Championships Tuesday, 27-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-18 (3-1).
The Warriors (35-3) advance to the Class 4A semifinals and will play #5 West Delaware (40-5) on Thursday at 12 p.m. The Rams, who appeared in their first state tournament in school history, finish the season at 30-13.
Glenwood was led by the 15 digs from Jaeda Wilson and seven blocks from Brynlee Arnold. Elle Scarborough finished with nine kills, six blocks and five digs. The Rams had a total of 43 digs, 17 blocks and five ace serves.
Two other southwest Iowa prep volleyball teams begin their state tournament runs Wednesday.
Red Oak (33-6) is the No. 3 seed in Class 3A and opens the state tournament against No. 6 Nevada (33-9) at 12 p.m.
Top-ranked Sidney (35-6) plays #8 Springville (20-16) at 6 p.m. in the Class 1A bracket.
