BELLEVUE - Five people have been arrested and more than 100 roosters seized after raid last month of a suspected cockfighting ring in Bellevue.

According to a release from the Nebraska Humane Society, NSH Animal Control Officers seized 114 roosters and 49 chicks and hens from a property in Bellevue on last month.

Officials say the birds were seized during a raid with Bellevue Police.

Salvador Lopez, Mendoza Chaves, Jose Gerardo-Soria, Veronica Herrera, and Jose Lopez have been arrested for felony cockfighting in connection with the incident.

Several other animals, including dogs, cats and a goat were also seized.

According to the release, this is the second-largest cockfighting case the NHS has seen in three years.
