The City of Beatrice is moving forward on purchase of the first parcels of land that will become the new home of Beatrice Fire and Rescue.
The city council, Monday night, approved exercising options on property owned by H2 Rentals and MRW Rentals, located along 7th Street.

The total cost of the parcels is about $130,000. City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says there are two homes on the land. He said the city's intention is to determine what kind of shape the homes are in, once the purchase is made. "If there's any market for persons to purchase them and move them, we will be interested. If not, you'll probably just see demolition", Tempelmeyer said.

The new fire and rescue station will be constructed on the block between 6th and 7th, and Scott and Bell Streets. The two parcels acted upon by city officials, were the first to be negotiated.

An initial environmental review of the property being purchased, did not show any contamination problems.
