Severe Weather Wraps Up Memorial Day Holiday Weekend
BEATRICE - A variety of severe weather was reported overnight, capping the Memorial Day holiday weekend with heavy rain, hail and high winds.
Observers reported tornadoes north of Imperial, where a storm wind gust of 90-miles-per-hour was also reported. This morning at around 1:30, National Weather Service officials received a report of a funnel cloud, near Bruning.
Severe thunderstorms across southern Nebraska registered wind gusts of 55-to-65 miles-per-hour. Tennis ball-sized hail was observed near Brule, Nebraska, with two-inch diameter hail reported near Kearney, northwest of Paxton, at Ogallala and southwest of Lamar. Golf ball-sized hail was observed near Boys Town, at Wellfleet, Sutherland and Gothenburg.
Heavy rain was reported at numerous locations, ranging from just over two inches at Seward, up to 4.7 inches at Ravenna.
Flash flood watches and warnings have been issued for areas of Nebraska.
