Looking To The Future

NORFOLK - After the announcement of Dr. Michael Chipps's retirement as President of Northeast Community College at the end of May, the future of the institution remains uncertain.
At the Board of Governors Meeting on May 9th, Interm leadership was named as the college begins the process to hire a new president.
Mary Honke and Steve Schram, who have a number of years of experience at Northeast, will serve as co-interim president beginning June 1st.
During this time, Board of Governors Chairman Steven Anderson says the transition process will include a search committee.
"We will develop a search committee. We talked about that today, well formalize that between now and the next board meeting. It will be a national search. We feel that Northeast has a lot to sell and so we look for strong candidates because of the college we have in place." Anderson says.
Anderson says they are looking for someone who can carry on tradition as well as leading them into the future.
"We're going to look for a community college president that can move us forward and continue with the initiatives that we've started. We also plan to start looking at our Vision 2025. Vision 2020 has been our strategic plan we've operated under for the last five years and now we will start our process with the new president who will lead us through that Vision 2025 as we establish our priorities."
Anderson also says that a successful president will carry on the existing projects and collaborate with other higher education in the state including Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska.
Chipps' last day serving as president is May 31st and says the person lucky enough to get the role will see Northeast continue to move in the right direction.
"The next president that can come, that transitions seamlessly and smoothly behind me can carry that tradition forward. So when you ask about what is in the future for Northeast, the sky's the limit."
