COLUMBUS - A Columbus man will serve at least a decade in jail after pulling a shotgun on police officers last fall.

22-year-old Jordan Cordero was sentenced to an indeterminate term of not less than 10 and not more than 15 years in jail before the Platte County District Court on Tuesday. Cordero plead no contest to a weapons charge and a charge of terroristic threats on January 28th.

Cordero was found guilty on both counts, which stem from an incident last September where court records say Cordero fled from Columbus Police Officers trying to arrest him on a Platte County warrant. Cordero hid in apartment #F4 at 4507 19th Street, where he took refuge in the bathroom armed with a shotgun.

Officer Velasquez of the CPD fired a shot at the threat, and apprehended Cordero after he had dropped his firearm. No one was injured in the incident, and Cordero was found with a pipe and a bag of methamphetamine in his pocket.

Cordero was sentenced to not less than two years and not more than three for the terroristic threats conviction, and the weapons charge carried a term of not less than eight years and not more than 12. The sentences will run concurrently, and Cordero received a credit of 176 days of time served for the terroristic threats charge.
