Crossroads Mission Avenue Awarded $1.5 Million for Homeless Support Building Improvements
Crossroads Mission Avenue has been awarded $1.5 million for repairs and improvements to the former Sunnyside building in Hastings.

HASTINGS, Neb. — Renovations to the 26,555-square-foot facility will increase efficiency and safety as the mission works to expand supportive care for people experiencing homelessness.
The grant will cover a majority of the costs of the $1.8 million project, which includes replacing the HVAC system, windows and exterior doors; upgrading electrical and plumbing systems; and enhancing security systems and handicap accessibility. Each dormitory room will also receive upgrades.
Daniel Buller, executive director of Crossroads Mission Avenue, said the organization has deep roots in the Hastings community.“Crossroads Mission Avenue was established in Hastings 43 years ago and has since spread throughout Central Nebraska,” Buller said. “It was the commitment of the Hastings community that has brought an example to all of Central Nebraska, showing what it means to care for the less fortunate. Hastings should be proud of this great accomplishment.”
Buller added the upgrades will allow the mission to continue serving those in need for years to come.
“By addressing major components of our facility, we will be positioned to continue doing our job well and fulfilling our mission of ‘Bringing glory to God through the helping of people,’” he said. “Our guests will know that they are worth the time, commitment and financial investment the community of Hastings is pouring into their lives.”
In 2025 alone, Crossroads Mission Avenue provided 30,654 nights of safe, sober and clean shelter for 517 men, women and children, including 114 elderly guests, 28 veterans and 40 children.
The funding is provided through FHLBank Topeka’s 2025 Affordable Housing Program.
